Tonight NY voted 33-29 to pass marriage equality in the state. I’m overwhelmed with so many emotions right now. I’m glad I lived to see this happen in the state where I live.
I’m so happy for everyone I know who can get married now. There are so many of you and I can’t even begin to imagine what it must feel like for those who have been together for years and years to hear this news tonight.

As one half of one of the 17,000 same-sex couples who were married in 2008 in California before Prop 8 passed, and as a native of Upstate New York, this brings me unspeakable joy. Now, if only my current home state could get its act together and follow suit, that’d be great.
It is still mind boggling to me that Prop 8 even happened. I’m just hopeful that with a state as large as ours it can bring momentum to other states to finally do the right thing, or in the case of CA, to do the right thing a second time.
