Local eat.make.do.

Here’s a list of local businesses. They are all in or near Saratoga Springs, NY. We try to buy as local as possible and hope others would do the same. By shopping at your local stores you help boost your local economy, as well as meeting great people in your community. For some great info on shopping local where you live check out The 3/50 Project.

EAT.

Kilpatrick Family Farm– This is where I work. I simply cannot say enough good things about this farm.

Lewis Waite Farm– Local meat.

Pick Your Own– This is a national site, but you can search for farms in your own area.

Quincy Farm– Run by friends of mine, Luke and Cara, they offer a CSA program and sell at several farmer’s markets in the area.

R’Eisen Shine Farm– Run by some friends I met while doing roller derby, Kim and Ejay have a very innovative CSA program. If you live near Albany or south of there, this is the farm for you! Ejay is also incredibly knowledgable about livestock raising and management.

Sanders Meat Market– Owners Tim and Heidi are incredibly nice and knowledgeable. They offer some local meat and veg as well. They also have a selection of pre-made meal items that are outstanding and are prepared by a CIA-trained chef.

West Wind Acres– Run by Josh and Stefanie Rockwood, they have incredible, ethical meat. They offer a CSA, buyers club, and are at several local farmer’s markets.

Willow Marsh Farm– The only place in our area to get raw milk. Chuck is a great guy who runs the dairy farm that has been in his family for over 100 years. In addition to raw milk, he sells yogurt, cheese, and meat.

MAKE.

Allerdice Hardware– Great for “eco” paint and they support Green efforts in the community. Really friendly staff and they have military/veteran discounts.

Foster Sheep Farm– Run by a really amazing lady, Carole Foster, who dyes and spins yarn from her own sheep.

DO.

Albany All Stars Roller Derby– Fun for the whole family! (Yes, kids actually do come and watch derby.)

The Children’s Museum at Saratoga

Letterboxing– A general link to letterboxing in North America. Here is the link for the Saratoga P.L.A.N. letterboxing clues.

Saratoga Farmers’ Market– We’re really fortunate to live near such a great market. Check it out in the summer and schedule time for yourself there. The market is best enjoyed when you grab food and a beverage so you can lounge on the nearby grass after you’ve finished shopping.
