>The first casualities

I knew it would happen. I knew something wouldn’t make it, I just didn’t think it would be so soon.

I took the tray of seedlings out the other night to harden them up before moving them to the garden. The first night I brought them inside our enclosed porch because there was still a frost warning. After that it’s been hot and a a bit rainy on and off as well. I thought everything was fine, I watered and such. Then I guess the combo of rain and a really hot and sunny Saturday was too much for most of them.

I watered them Friday, but forgot on Saturday. The little peat pods hold a lot of water so I really just assumed it would be fine.

Yesterday Chris put up this rabbit blocking wire onto wood stakes and we moved stuff over. Well….when we looked at the seedlings, they looked sad. Some stuff like the chamomile and carrots were just gonners. We could salvage the peas, summer squash and jalepenos. Some of those looked wilty but we transplanted them anyways.

Now it’s just a waiting game to see what can revive itself. I’m about to head out to Agway to get some starters, bulbs and marigolds. I’m not going to give up on the seeds, but I also don’t want to have a total garden failure this year.
